EVOLUTION & TRANSFORMATION OF AGSOSO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

EVOLUTION & TRANSFORMATION OF AGSOSO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Date : June 19, 2011
TO : The Leaders and People of Barangays Badbad Oriental, Badbad Occidental, Agsoso, Quinubcoban and Tan-awan
FROM: Arnulfo Laniba
RE : Vision for a Cost-Efficient School, Quality & Fast Education

Dear fellows:

Mission:

To provide each student a holistic education zeroing on in his talents (as God wills in Matthew 25 & Luke 19) which can make him independent (self-employed, not an employee, nor slave) in so short a time, e.g., even before the child reaches 15 years old, and ultimately, an enterprise (employer) even as early as 15 years old, then, finally, an industry (his talent becoming the skill and source of livelihood of the community) even when s/he is still in her/his twenties!

In short, a quick metamorphosis and evolution of a talent (seed) into enterprise (grown up tree) into industry (cluster of trees, forest).

The speed of learning will ensure us that long before they will get married, our children will have been successful already.

For this speedy and early talent-based mastery education, Charice Pempengko and also Manny Pacquiao is our living model and case study, in this type of education. Significantly and amazingly, there was no aid from the government, not even a support from a father (Charice’s father abandoned mother and child early in life) and no support from relatives and friends!, the mother and child was able to turn the later into an international singing phenomenon as early as when Charice was only 12 years old! And there was no huge financial capital spent, only an old cassette recorder and a microphone!

This is a very cheap – read: very affordable approach to education and success, it is an education which can enable everyone to finally live, survive and prosper in his native land, and there is no more need to suffer separation and find livelihood in another far away land that is hostile and merciless!

Let us save the lives of many brothers and sisters who have been forced to go out and search for the elusive income in Saudi Arabia, or in Canada, or in America. They are doing so in exchange for so much sufferings, sorrows and losses. Their marriages are breaking; their families disintegrating. Daily they face the abuses of their unmerciful employers who treat them as tools, not human beings.

The Talent-Based Fast Education (TFE) is an alternative to the long formal schooling that has been offered by the government and schools which end up our graduates into low-paying employment and grief-laden mystery-wrapped overseas employment – I said ‘mystery’ because until now they have kept so much information from us about what has happened to them, what is still happening to them. The only thing we could know is when one of them goes home on a coffin, or has disappeared forever untraceable, etc., etc.

The TFE is the implementation of our heavenly Father’s will in Matthew 25 (Parable of the Talents) and Luke 19 (Parable of the Pounds): EACH CHILD BORN ON EARTH IS GIVEN A SPECIAL TALENT OR TWO THAT SHE OR HE IS TO DEVELOP INTO SKILL AS SEED INTO A SEEDLING… INTO AN ENTERPRISE AS SEEDLING BECOMING A FULL-GROWN TREE…INTO AN INDUSTRY AS ONE FULL GROWN TREE BECOMING A FOREST!

One great example of a little least-expected talent is the music in Loboc town. It started with one man way back in Spanish occupation era, who taught music in the parish church to children.

After 400 years, that seed has become, not only a tree, but an industry. Industry means more than one child and person has become musician and singer. It is as if the whole town of Loboc has become musicians, composers and singers!

What a wonderful phenomenon!

In Loboc it is music. In Holland, may my memory still serves me, it is Phillips electric fluorescent lamps et al that has become an industry – the work and livelihood of a whole community or even country.

In Japan it is automobile, CD/DVD players, etc.

In Nokia country, it is the cellular phone.

In the Philippines, what will it be? Who can sow the seed and turn it into a forest? Helping so many people, giving jobs to many?

Answer: It will depend only on the talents the Good Lord has imbued the young Filipinos now.

And as parents and leaders, may we stop putting a cap to suppress their talents! The cap that we have been placing is the formal education which suppresses the talents of our children. Our formal education is – our formal schools are - leading our children away from their talents and into woks that serve only the employers who make products mostly harmful to the bodies and minds of the people!

Let us take another path! And this path is the Talent-Based Fast Education (TFE) taken by the Charice Pempengko and Manny Pacquio with only their mothers!!! No need of government help. No need of financing. No need of outside help – just the help and guidance of the Almighty All-loving Father in heaven. That’s all.

Our TFE implementation

The Venue & Locations:

• All 1-2 year Day Cares and the 1-year compulsory Kindergarten in each barangay;
• All Grades 1 to 6 centralized at the current Agsoso Elementary school campus;
• The planned High School shall be in Badbad Oriental where there is already a sufficient plain site and there is a better accessibility for all;

What shall be found and done in each campus? What is the curriculum?

1) All games and plays in Day Care and Kindergarten shall already be aimed to develop certain skills needed for work, leadership, freedom and adulthood.
2) The Agsoso Elementary School shall already contain MINI-SHOPS for basic talents and work skill such as carpentry, furniture, electronics, organic farming & livestock raising; baking and cooking; sewing/tailoring; music composition, accompaniment and singing, arts/painting; entrepreneurship, management and independence;
3) Each classroom in Badbad Or High School shall represent a skill or talent, as much as possible.
4) REAL SHOPS will complement each classroom. Example: One classroom for English plus one English-practice shop, where the children can practice speaking, writing English. One classroom for Electronics complemented by an Electronic Shop opposite to the location of the Electronic Classroom. Science Classroom shall be complemented by a well-equipped Science Laboratory;
5) From School shops to real world shops – that is, actual business shops where our pudents (pupils/students) can apprentice;
6) VENTURE CAPITAL – a source of capital and other resources to help each graduate establish his/her own shop or business based on the talent she/he has developed; Thus, the route prosperity has been unleased! What then shall we do to ensure that we will not repeat the error of the sunk continent of Atlantis? What was the error of Atlantis? Answer: Knowledge-Wisdom-Wealth puffed up, but love edifies. The Atlanteans became great in mind but not in heart. They lacked love.
7) From Day Care to High School: LOVE-Character Development or the CULTIVATION OF THE HEART/TEACHING OF LOVE AS THE FOUNDATION.

World’s Faulty Education – Cause of Misery

“the heart… is almost totally neglected and the worldly intellect alone educated. This is why there is so much evil among human beings because they have merely a brain and no heart. For that very reason I allow misery and misfortune in human society, so as to awaken the inner feeling, neglected or led astray in early life, and make the inner voice heard again, so that man may again learn to prefer spiritual well-being and advantage to worldly success. Through misery and ills I awaken the sleeping hearts. In their misery they then seek Me, whom in their life of pleasure they had quite forgotten.”
The Eternal Father Jehovah, Secrets of Life, p. 179:3-4

The seat of emotion or feelings – that is, the seat of love, which composes the foundation of character, morality and righteousness shall be given emphasis.

Humility or humble love, for example, is the trait the faithful angels held; this shall be developed instead of pride and arrogance, the trait Lucifer adopted. What is pride or arrogance? It is a form of perverted Love of Self (Self-Love). How to overcome proud or arrogant self-love? Love for God above all and Love for Neighbor shall be taught and awakened to temper Love of Self and its many manifestations, pride-arrogance among them; without sufficient Love for God and Neighbor, the Love of Self will become Selfish, Lustful, Greedy, Proud, Arrogant, Oppressive, Suppressive, Criminal.

Divine Love or perfect Love is complete love: It is Love for God, Love for Neighbor and Love for Self. Selfish Love or Selfish Self-love is a conglomeration of bad traits including pride and arrogance.

Divine Love is the anti-dote of Selfish Love or perverted Love. By divine Love, you can overcome the wrong self-love. That is to say, with Love for God and Neighbor, you can temper your love for your self. You can prevent over-loving your self if you have love for God and neighbor.

It is to say, you will not become selfish (thereby hurting others, displeasing God) if you have love for God and your fellowmen. Self-love will not pervert if you have love for God and neighbor. If you have compassion for the poor, your self-love will pervert into cruelty and pride.

The failure to teach and mold the heart in the church, and both at home and in school is the main cause why fruits of perverted Self-love abound. What are the fruits of perverted self-love? They are: lack of unity and much disunity, lack of harmony and much disharmony, lack of loyal friendship and much treachery and betrayals, lack of teamwork and much competition, lack of cooperation and much division, lack of appreciation of the good of others and much envy and jealousy; in short, lack of deep love for the fellowmen and much apathy and hate, lack of overriding love and respect for God and His creation and much ingratitude and sacrilege.

What the Churches and Homes failed to do is the cultivation of love in the heart. The Churches focused on cold FAITH, a.k.a., intellectual religion, preventing the awakening of love in the heart. Faith should lead to the awakening of the love in the heart. Faith is in the mind; love is in the heart. Faith is useless unless it leads to the fulfillment of the great commandment and aim To Love God above all and the neighbor. The up-to-faith-only churches exposed our children to pride and arrogance. So, when they climbed up to college and get diplomas, they became ‘high class’ forgetting the soil which fed them when they were still young, now they think that money feed them. They forget the soil of God and worship the money of this evil system. Compassion for their old folks become minimal; for many of them who have reached the great cities and high pedestal of success and wealth, connection to their poor parents and origin is cut. They forgot their origin. They forgot their poor parents. They forgot their poor relatives. They scorn the poor.

They hate the land. They shun agriculture. They consider agriculture as an inferior course or career. To them, soil is dirty. To them, a glass or white-painted wall is class.

So, on and on, ‘educated’ people shun the land, hate the soil, spurn God’s ground for the training of humility and appreciation. They become proud, arrogant, vain.

Lucifer and his hosts fell because of pride and arrogance.

We must beware lest our children be educated in their hearts with pride and arrogance. The sad thing is: they are already stamped with this evil germ of pride and arrogance!
It should be noted that Character Development thru Love-Cultivation is done at home first. The school shall serve as extension ground for such learning, for the school can serve as the broader ground to practice love for neighbor and God.

• In each of the five Day Care and Kindergarten campuses: safety campus, with fence if possible to protect from moving vehicles, kidnappers and from cliffs, etc; child-friendly playground;
• books and teachings tools which develop the whole personality of the child-pupil-student, namely: spirit-heart (the seat of emotion), soul-mind (the seat of thoughts) and the physical body;
• Especially in the elementary but most especially in high school:
1. One Classroom for every Subject (for the Theory)
2. One Workshop Room or Shop for every Subject (for the Pseudo-Practice or Initial Practice)

For example: There is a classroom for English and there is a corresponding English Practice Room with all the necessary tools, equipment, instruments, exercises, etc. to serve as pseudo-experience for the student to learn English, both in writing and speaking.

There is a Science Room and there is a corresponding Science Laboratory where Science is applied using tools such as microscope, etc.

There is a classroom for lecture in Carpentry/Furniture and there is a corresponding Shop for practice complete with the tools and machineries.

There is a classroom for Electronics lecture and its corresponding Shop Room for practice in electronics.

There is a classroom for the subject of Baking and there is a corresponding Practice Room for practice of baking.

This is the same for each subject and all subjects.

• SME-Industry Link. After the Initial Practice or Pseudo-Practice in the school’s shop, kitchen or laboratory, the graduating students are sent to partner Small & Medium Enterprises to work or practice as apprenticeships to perform the specific subjects or course

School’s Financial Sustainability:

Where do or will we source our funds for:
• the construction of classrooms and mini-shops, real shops
• salaries of teachers and administrators;
• books and other teaching materials;
• maintenance of the schools;

Sources of income and resources:
• Agsoso Elementary School Alumni Association (AESAA);
• Foreign and local foundations;
• The 40% share of the revenue of the water of Badbad Oriental-Badbad Occidental, Agsoso, Quinubcoban barangays;
• Turn the watershed into Orchard (fruit bearing trees), not just forest lumber trees: To be managed by AESAA and AESPTA (Agsoso Elementary School Parents-Teachers Association);
• Earnings of the school mini-shops, read shops;
• Earnings of the school-directed VENTURE CAPITALS/student business partnerships;
• Donations from successful students turned entrepreneurs, etc.;

May this will set the starting point of what I hope to be finally a reality not so long into the feature: The hands-on school that we are envisioning.
